Teams and Opponents
Teams (on SideoutCam’s home screen) is the list of teams that can appear on the scoreboard: your own teams and the opponents you play often.
Adding or editing a team
Home ▸ Teams ▸ +, or tap a team to edit it. A team has:
- Short name (up to 10 characters): shown on the scoreboard and used in file names, e.g. “Eastside”.
- Mascot (optional): shown as a second line on the scoreboard, e.g. “Flames”.
- Full name (optional): used in YouTube descriptions, e.g. “Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School”.
- Logo (optional): picked from Photos and cropped to a square. A PNG with a transparent background looks best. On the camera phone, Adjust Logo reopens the crop screen (from the original photo if you picked it in this edit); Cancel there keeps the logo as it was. Nothing changes until you tap Save.
- Color (optional): fills the team’s row on the scoreboard and its score button in SideoutTally.
- Roster (optional, opponents): numbers and first names, for tagging an opponent’s highlight by player. Your own players are on your team in My Teams, so a team that’s one of your scoreboard teams shows where to find them instead.
You can also add and edit teams from SideoutTally’s Game Setup (Teams ▸ Add Team or Edit Teams). They’re saved on the camera phone. SideoutTally can’t delete teams.
Finding a team
Type in the Search teams box at the top of Teams to show only the teams whose short name, mascot or full name contains what you type. Capitals and accents don’t matter. Clear the box to see every team again. SideoutTally’s Edit Teams list has the same search.
Opponents without a team record
For a one-off opponent you don’t need colors or a logo for, don’t add a team: in Start Game ▸ Opponent, choose Type a name… and enter the name (up to 10 characters). It appears on the scoreboard in the plain style and in file names, and is remembered for your next game, but isn’t added to Teams.
- If you type the name of a team you’ve already saved, Sideout asks whether to Use Saved Team (with its colors and logo) or Keep Just the Name.
- To keep a typed opponent for later, open the Opponent menu and choose Save “Name” as a Team. It’s added to Teams and opened so you can add colors, a logo or a roster.
Deleting a team
Swipe left on a team in Teams, or tap the trash icon in its edit screen. Games already recorded keep its name.
A team that one of My Teams uses as its scoreboard team is labelled “Scoreboard team for …” and can’t be deleted. Change that team’s scoreboard team in My Teams first.
