After the Game
Games
Home ▸ Games lists every game and practice on the camera phone. Open one to see its sets, warm-up and highlights.
- Tap a video to play it full screen.
- Filmed for: which of your teams it belongs to (change it to upload to another team’s places).
- Tournament: file it under a tournament, or change or clear it.
- Share: send files to another app, AirDrop, and so on.
- Delete Game from Phone: frees the space. Copies already uploaded or on an external drive aren’t affected.
Games are also in the Files app: On My iPhone ▸ SideoutCam ▸ Games. If Also save to Photos is on, each set and highlight is copied to Photos too (this uses the space twice).
Uploading
Uploads only happen when you tap them. Choose the team’s YouTube playlist first; its Drive folder is made for you on the first upload if it doesn’t have one yet (My Teams and Accounts).
Google Drive
Tap Upload to Google Drive. Each game gets its own folder inside the team’s Drive folder (“SideoutCam · your team”, which you can move or rename in Drive):
Your folder ▸ 20261004 Westview vs. Eastside ▸ sets, highlight reel, Game Summary
▸ Highlights ▸ clips
▸ Warm-Up ▸ warm-up (if included)
Games in a tournament go inside a folder with its name: Your folder ▸ Provincials ▸ 20261004 Westview vs. Eastside. If you change a game’s tournament after uploading, its folder moves on the next upload. A second game against the same team on the same day gets “(2)”.
If you set lineups (Game Day), each set’s Drive description lists who played in it, the liberos and the substitutions (highlights don’t list who was on court). Drive search finds them, so searching for a player’s name finds every set they played in, and every highlight tagged with their name. The game’s folder also gets a Game Summary document: each set’s score, who played, the liberos and the substitutions, then the highlights, with links to each video on Drive and YouTube (and each highlight’s moment in its full set). Uploading again, to Drive or YouTube, updates it.
YouTube
Tap Upload to YouTube. Each set’s description includes its score and who played, if you set lineups (highlights don’t list who was on court). A set’s description also lists its highlights as clickable times (e.g. “2:13 Parker Kill”) that jump to that moment in the set. Every video is uploaded Unlisted, not made for kids, in the Sports category, and added to the top of the team’s playlist in order: warm-up (if included), Sets 1–5, then highlights. In YouTube Studio, set the playlist’s order to Manual so new games stay on top.
Highlights on YouTube (My Teams ▸ the team ▸ Uploads) decides how highlights go to YouTube:
- One reel per game (the default): Upload to YouTube first joins the game’s highlights into one video, with a 3-second title card before each one: the play (e.g. “Parker Kill”), then the set and the score at that moment (“Set 2 · Westview 12–9 Eastside”), on the team’s color and logo. Making it takes a minute or two, with SideoutCam open. The reel’s description lists each highlight from 0:00, which YouTube turns into chapters. It goes in the playlist after the sets, and shows in the game as Highlight reel, where you can play it. Highlights added later (e.g. after another set) go into a second reel the next time you upload.
- Separate videos: each highlight is its own video (one upload each, as before).
- None: no highlight videos; each set’s description still lists its highlights as clickable times.
Drive always gets each highlight as its own clip (in the Highlights folder) and the game’s reel (in the game’s folder, next to the sets and the Game Summary; made when you upload to Drive or YouTube, whichever is first; the same reel is used for both), whatever this setting. The Game Summary links to the reel and to each highlight’s moment in it.
YouTube limits how many videos a channel can upload per day (a reel per game keeps a tournament day to a handful of uploads). If you hit the limit, the rest upload when you tap Upload again the next day.
Good to know
- Uploads keep going in the background. You can switch apps or lock the phone.
- Upload over Wi-Fi only (Home ▸ Uploads) is on by default; games are several GB. Uploads wait for Wi-Fi.
- Warm-ups are only uploaded if you choose Include Warm-Up.
- Stopped or interrupted? Tap Upload again. It skips finished files and continues where it left off.
Player reels
A player reel is one player’s highlights joined into a single video for them to keep, from one game, a tournament or a whole season (scrimmages are left out). It’s made on the camera phone and saved there; send it with AirDrop or Messages, or save it to Photos.
Making one:
- From a game: Games ▸ the game ▸ Player Reel… (shown when the game has highlights tagged with one of your players). The game is already chosen.
- For a tournament or a season: Home ▸ My Teams ▸ the team ▸ Player Reels.
Then:
- Player: from the team’s roster. Players tagged in older games who are no longer on the roster are listed too.
- Highlights from: Game (pick one), Tournament (pick one), or Dates (From and To, e.g. the season). Only games filmed for this team count, so a club team’s and a school team’s highlights don’t mix. Tournaments and dates take games, not practices; open a practice in Games to make a reel of it.
- Plays (optional): tick plays to keep only those, e.g. Kill and Ace. With none ticked, every play is in.
- Check the count under the button, then tap Make [player]’s Reel.
Only highlights tagged with that player are used: from the highlight tag sheet, or a stat’s Highlight button in SideoutTally. Highlights where they were just on court aren’t. Tags are matched by jersey number when both the tag and the roster have one (so two players named Parker are kept apart), otherwise by first name. A tag with only a first name that two players on the roster share goes in neither reel: give your players numbers to avoid that.
The reel starts with a title card (e.g. “#7 Parker · Westview”, then “Provincials 2026” or “Sep 1 – Oct 7, 2026”), then each highlight, oldest first, with a 3-second card before it: the play (“Parker Kill”), then the opponent, set, score and date (“vs. Eastside · Set 2 · 12–9 · Oct 4”). The cards use the team’s color and logo.
Making a reel re-encodes the video, so it takes a while: keep SideoutCam open (the screen stays on). Cancel stops it and saves nothing. It can’t be made while the camera screen is open, and opening the camera screen (from either phone) stops it.
External drive: highlights moved to an external drive are used while the drive is plugged in. If it isn’t, they’re left out, and the screen says how many before you start (and which ones after). If all of them are on the drive, plug it in first.
Saved player reels are listed at the bottom of the Player Reels screen: tap one to play it, tap the share icon to send it, or swipe left to delete it. They’re also in the Files app: On My iPhone ▸ SideoutCam ▸ Player Reels. A reel is a snapshot: highlights added later aren’t in it, and making it again saves a new file. Names say who and what, dated by the last game in the reel, e.g. 20261012-Parker-Provincials-2026-Reel.mov (a second one gets “-2”).
Player reels aren’t uploaded to Google Drive or YouTube (share them instead), and there are no reels of opponents’ players yet.
Tournaments
Set a tournament in Start Game, and it stays set for every game until you end it, so a multi-day tournament files everything together. When it’s over, tap End [tournament name] under Start Game on the home screen. It’s then no longer suggested. Games already in it keep it.
External drive
Free up space by moving games to a USB-C drive (exFAT or APFS):
- Plug the drive into the camera phone.
- In Games, tap the drive menu ▸ Choose Drive Folder, and pick a folder on the drive.
- Open a game and tap Move to External Drive, or use Move All to External Drive.
Each file is copied and checked before it’s removed from the phone, and existing files on the drive are never replaced. Games stay in the list, marked as on the drive. Tap them to play from the drive while it’s plugged in. Bring Back to Phone copies them back (the drive keeps its copy).
To upload a game that’s on the drive, keep the drive plugged in and SideoutCam open, or bring it back to the phone first to upload in the background.
